LOCALES
ASPEN
Aspen remains the cultural and recreational anchor of the upper Roaring Fork Valley. Internationally recognized for skiing, dining, and arts programming, it offers a depth of year-round events and amenities that extend well beyond the winter season. Its historic core, public spaces, and surrounding public lands continue to define the region’s global profile.
BASALT
Basalt functions as both the valley’s most practical daily hub and one of its most authentic historic town centers. Anchored by Willits Town Center for everyday services—including Whole Foods, dining, fitness, and medical care—Basalt is equally defined by its walkable Old Town, independent restaurants and shops, farmers markets, and seasonal events such as Music in the Park. Set at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Fryingpan Rivers, it offers a rare balance of convenience, character, and community without the congestion of resort centers.
CARBONDALE
Carbondale serves as the cultural and community heart of the mid-valley. Known for its strong local dining scene, farmers markets, and arts programming, it offers an authentic year-round community atmosphere distinct from the resort centers. Its walkable core, independent restaurants, and regular events make it a natural gathering point for residents throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.
GLENWOOD SPRINGS
Glenwood Springs functions as the valley’s regional service and transportation hub. Home to the Roaring Fork Valley’s primary hospital, commercial airport access, hot springs, and a broad range of dining and services, it provides everyday infrastructure and connectivity. Its historic downtown and riverfront setting anchor the western gateway to the valley.
REDSTONE
Redstone is a historic mountain hamlet nestled at the entrance to the Crystal River Valley. Defined by preserved architecture, quiet streets, and immediate access to hiking, fishing, and backcountry terrain, it offers a slower, more contemplative counterpoint to the busier valley towns. Redstone remains intentionally small and largely unchanged, valued for its character and setting rather than commercial activity.
